I’ve just hatched an idea in my head for escort cards that is the first that I’m actually excited about. I need to price things out to see if it’ll work.

I don’t want to give it away but I will say it involves delicious NC strawberries!

Bouquet Idea December 12, 2009

I’m pretty sure I know what I want to do for the bouquets.  My pal Julie used a felt bouquet at her wedding and I think they’re pretty awesome.

I mean how can you not love that?!  As an experiment on my lunch break the other day, I went to the 100 yen shop, bought some cheap felt, buttons, and thread, and tried my hand at making my own felt flower.

First thing I learned is cheap felt is a bad idea.  It’s flimsy and didn’t like the glue too much.  I’ll need to go to the fabric store down in Kyoto and see if they have proper felt.  Second thing I learned is freehanding the cutting of the flower was a really stupid idea.  I’ll have to make some stencils.  But other than that it went along a lot smoother than I expected.  Let’s see if this is a crafty project I can actually be bothered to finish lol.

I finally got around to adding the wedding party information. I wanted to try and get that done before the save the dates were sent out but it wasn’t in the cards. I’m just pleased with how well the save the dates turned out! I’ve had a few people tell me they look like I ordered them from a shop which boosts my Photoshop ego since I whipped up the design during my spare time at work ;)

Updates on where we’re considering having the wedding. Right now Raleigh, Topsail, Kitty Hawk, and Landrum, SC, are all in the running. We have plenty of time to sort it out though so I’m not sweating it.

So as you can see there hasn’t been much in the way of posting but I was in a state of limbo between going to America and doing any planning.

We had our friend Roxy help us out by taking some photos of us in Kyoto. She did a really good job! I’ve been slowly editing them in Photoshop and am currently trying to upload them on Flickr but it’s being incredibly slow. Maybe sometime next year they will have uploaded.

I’ve met with three photographers since getting to Raleigh Tuesday and have narrowed my choices down to two. They are Martha Manning and Story Photographers. They were both really cool people so I’m having trouble deciding. David is leaving this decision completely up to me which makes it even more difficult ;) I was kind of hoping one of them would turn out to be a complete jerk so as to make the decision easy. Now it’s just a matter of deciding how much we actually have in our budget for photos and going from there.

Beach Wedding? August 5, 2009

It is so tempting to say to heck with it with a Raleigh wedding right now!

I found out you can rent the Surf City Welcome Center, which is actually a nice looking place right on the beach, for only $300. $300!! That’s absurdly cheap! It has plenty of parking, oceanfront with beach access, a prep kitchen, sound system, tables, chairs. I am honestly astonished at the price for everything you get.

Go to Surf City’s website and click on the Welcome Center link on the left. They have tons of pictures of the facilities.

So so tempting!!

We’ve already bought our cake toppers. I know that seems like a silly thing to be buying NOW but going home in September is the perfect opportunity to bring them back in my luggage rather than shipping them home next year.

They are called shisa and are seen all over the islands of Okinawa. Shisa are guardians for your home and can also be found at temples and shrines. The shisa with the closed mouth keeps away bad spirits and the shisa with the open mouth brings in good fortune.

We’re now soliciting names for the shisa!

ust got back from our engagement party. It was at Sky Joker, one of our favorite local restaurants.

The party was amazing!!! I was just expecting some friends to show up and drink beers with us, but a bunch of people gave us gifts, and one of our friends arranged it so the entire restaurant would light sparklers and wish us well and shoot paper at us lol. I was not
expecting that AT ALL! We got so much cool stuff, like a giant bottle of sake from our favorite local brewery, some kick ass chocolate, a giant bouquet of flowers. I was truly amazed at what our friends did for us. Even our friend from England was like, “I can’t believe how many friend you have made in Japan!” And it’s true! So many people showed up where I was thinking, “How the heck do you even know us!?” It’s times like this I am really glad we moved from Kinomoto. Even though Kinomoto was an amazing place in its own right, if we had stayed there we would have never of made the network of friends we have now. We are truly blessed to have so many people in our lives to wish us well!

A ton of people took pictures at the party, so expect them to show up on Facebook soon!  I was a dumbass and forgot to charge my camera :/

I swear if I go to one more photographer’s website that uses autoload music and these huge files that take forever to load I will go insane!  Apparently photographers are under the impression that everyone has a supercomputer running in their house.
